Oh sure, you can wait. You can wait to book your summer session. The only problem is, there won't be any dates left. If you are looking for a sunset session over the summer, you cannot book too early. Every year, every single available night of the summer gets booked. When they are gone, they are gone.
So many families and even high school seniors call me in July or the beginning of August and hope for a location date. We always do our best to accommodate, but sadly, I have to tell an number of families each year, I can't get your on the schedule until...September, or maybe next year. My best recommendation, if you are at all interested in having a family or high school senior session the months of May through October, get on the schedule right away.
